Domain Authority (often abbreviated DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz. It’s designed to predict how likely a website is to rank on search engine results pages (SERPs). You can check your websites domain authority here >

What Domain Authority is:

  • Score range: 1–100 (higher = stronger likelihood of ranking well).
  • It’s A Relative metric: t’s not an absolute measure of Google’s ranking system but a comparative one. You use it to benchmark against competitors.
  • It Is Based On Links: It’s calculated using data from Moz’s link index, machine learning, and factors like: numer of backlinks and the quality of those links as well as your link profile diversity.

What It’s useful For:

  • Comparing your site’s strength to competitors in your niche.
  • Tracking your link-building progress and on-site optimisation over time.
  • Identifying strong websites in your field worth getting backlinks from.

What domain authority Isn’t:

  • Not a Google metric: Google doesn’t use DA in its algorithms. It’s Moz’s own predictive model.
  • Not a direct ranking factor: A high DA doesn’t guarantee rankings—it just correlates with them.
  • Not static: DA can go up or down as Moz updates its index and competitors gain/lose links.
